Duke of Lancaster, la galleria d'arte a cielo aperto più grande del Galles

Ottima segnalazione quella del mio amico Riccardo che, mentre girovagava sul web, si è imbattuto in questo progetto davvero originale: la nave Duke of Lancaster, messa a secco ed abbandonata dal '79 sulla costa nord del Galles (precisamente nel bacino di Flintshire), è stata invasa e rivitalizzata grazie all'intervento di un gruppo di writer e street artist. Non sarà la prima esperienza in assoluto su questo tipo di superficie, molto alternativa a murate e treni, ma di sicuro merita grande attenzione. Tutti i pezzi sono di dimensioni di circa 18m x 14m, ed il progetto è ancora in fase di espansione, anche se partito nel 2012. Intento finale è quello di trasformare il Duke nella più grande galleria d'arte a cielo aperto del paese.

Partecipano gli artisti affiliati al collettivo DuDug, tra i quali troviamo - in questa occasione - KIWIE, CREAM SODA Crew, Bungle, Mr.Zero, GOIN, Fin DAC e Fatheat, capeggiati e sotto il coordinamento di Maurice Blunt. Dopo una prima parte del lavoro, nel 2013 si sono aggiunti (come anticipato) anche RANDOM e Snub23, ed altri stanno arrivando.

Excellent reporting of my homie Riccardo who, during web surfing, met this original and unique art project: the ship Duke of Lancaster, abandoned in Flintshire dry dock since 1979, has been invaded and brought back to life thanks to the operation of a writer and street artist crew. It isn't the first experience on this kind of surface, a lot alternative to walls and whole cars, but for sure it deserves great attention. All the images have a dimension of about 18m x14m, and the project is still in expansion, even if it started in 2012. Final intent is to transform The Duke into the largest open air art gallery in the country.

Some members of DuDug group take part in this adventure, among which we find KIWIE, CREAM SODA Crew, Bungle, Mr.Zero, GOIN, Fin DAC e Fatheat, headed and coordinated by Maurice Blunt. After that first session, this year (as anticipated) also RANDOM e Snub23 took part in the work, and many more are coming.
